Never Fail Fudge

The title of this recipe is accurate: it is nearly impossible to make badly, unless you have an uncontrollable tendency to set things on fire (in which case, a flambé dessert may be more your style – flame on, Human Torch!). Interestingly, I found a completely different fudge recipe in the box, written by my great-grandmother, and also titled “Never Fail Fudge”. I definitely plan to try that one as well, and compare the results!

This is the fudge that my mother would make for all occasions: holidays, parties, pot luck appetizers, you name it. The preparation is incredibly simple, and the flavor and texture are great. And unlike more “traditional” fudge recipes, this particular sweet is not susceptible to cooking failure due to ambient humidity. Try it out today – after all, you can’t possibly fail!

Ingredients:

  • 2 (12-ounce) packages semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts (I prefer walnuts, myself)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:

3-combine

In a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt together the chocolate chips and condensed milk.

4-add_nuts

Remove from heat, and stir in the nuts, vanilla, and salt.

5-in_pan

Pour the mixture into an 8” x 8” x 2” pan lined with wax paper or parchment paper.

Allow to chill for at least 2 hours, or until firm.

6-finished

Slice the fudge into 1-inch squares and serve.
